What I really want career wise???

It's been ages since I wrote my last blog and honestly, I didn't have the time to really write anything. There are lots of thing in my life that have already evolved. First, I now have a three year little boy who makes me smile everyday. Second, I have be living life to the fullest and I have been so blessed having a very supportive wife (well... fiance) and parents.

I am now passing a crossroad in my professional life. Having been working for my mom for eleven year now in our own consulting company, which I somewhat feel coming to an end.

Our company, who had a contractual partnership in the past eight years, as a representative has now decided to establish a local office. This means, our company will no longer exist, but rather the people, which is us, will be employed directly by what used to be our clients. This means we are no longer our own boss.

So much for the complexity of corporate life but I can't help thinking about "what I really want to do". As a teenager growing, I've always wanted to be a musician, on the road and performing. Not as a rockstar, but someone who just like playing music. But then, it wouldn't be practical especially today when life is hard. Recently, I got hooked into photography and wanted to venture into my own studio. But then, the guarantee that it will prosper is to hard to achieve as many are now into this hobby. This brings me back to my academic roots. I finished a degree in Physical Therapy and had always wanted to live and work in the US. But thing is, the processing is to tedious and time consuming.

The bottom line is, I am already not happy with my present work. I really have to look for a more fulfilling option. For the meantime, I have to make the best out of this.

JOHNDEL BEACH RESORT, NASUGBU, BATANGAS - A ROBBERS HAVEN

We recently stayed at JohnDel Beach Resort in Nasugbu. We won't forget the experience because at around 3:30 to 4:00 AM, one of the three rooms we were staying at, was robbed while my cousins are asleep with their children. Things like PSP, watches, cellphones and cash were maliciously taken considering there are security guards doing their rounds all night long. This is because the beach front of JohnDel Beach Resort is just separated by a bamboo fence without any lights during the night. It is very easy for thieves or worst, kidnappers to enter the premises without being noticed even during daytime when all vacationists are busy having fun. All in all, we lost around 80,000 Php worth of merchandise and cash. The room in front of us where a foreigner (Indian) was staying, was also robbed of 1000 USD and 3000 Rupees and a cell phone. The guy was not drunk therefore could have woke up if somebody tried to enter his room. During the investigation, my nephew (8 years old) told us that during the time of the robbery, he noticed a hand on the window spraying something inside the room. Upon recollection, it is impossible not to wake up if the robbers are inside a small room. Especially when my cousin's wife's cellphone is placed alongside her head with a noisy keychain which was also taken. This must be a new "modus operandi" of robbers in stealing from out-of-towners. Just imagine, if one of my cousins or worst, my nephews woke up that night, what would the thieves have done. Maybe they had knives or guns. They didn't stand a chance. We also learned that a guest from a neighboring beach resort was also robbed by the same thieves who incidentally was a visitor of the Mayor of Nasugbu. Scary!!!

The owner and manager are insisting that it was the security agency's fault and therefore is liable for the loss and damages done to us. I believe not, as from the start, I was transacting with JohnDel Beach Resort. Not with the security agency. Therefore, the resort is liable. The management did not even want to return our payment accommodation for the robbed room giving us only 1000 Php back, but upon insisting, they returned it. To hell with them.

Summer time is here again, and many bakasyonista's are now planning to go to the beach. A WORD OF CAUTION. DO NOT STAY AT JOHNDEL BEACH RESORT. OR BETTER YET, DO NOT STAY NI NASUGBU, BATANGAS. Not only your things are in danger, but your lives as well.

Leaving on a Jetplane

It's almost time to go for my so-called "In-laws". I hope they had fun here in the Philippines. Actually, my fiance's father had already gone home and I got to meet him the first time since me and my fiance got together almost nine years ago. It was a mix of fear and fulfillment and I feel I know my fiance better now because I saw in her many characteristics of her father which makes her unique to me.

My fiance's sister, Abie, stayed here three months with her daughter Jastyne. I will miss both of them specially the little one because of her never-ending "Kanino ito???" and "Saan tayo punta?" questions. I am very glad that I we are already cloe because when she arrived 3 months ago, she wouldn't even touch me because she's scared of me.

Along with them is my fiance's mother, Tessie, who recently had her 60th birthday. It was fun as we tried to make it a 60's theme party. Almost everyone wore 60's inspired costumes and hairdo. This was also due to the persuasion of my fiance because we all know that whenever there is a theme party, her cousins and aunts make it a point to dress for fun. I, personally had a skinny pants with pointed shoes, flower shirt and a Buddy Holly inspired glasses. I even invited my mom and dad and told them to dress as well which they did. My dad even won the best costume price for wearing a punk-rock style attire that is reminiscent of Mike Hanopol of the Philippines. There was a lot of 60's music, from Elvis to Sinatra to the Beatles which is my peronsal favorite.

It is always like a party whenever some folks of my fiance from the States come home for a vacation. Almost every week there would be get-togethers and outings. The best part is what we call "sessions". Of course, beer for the guys and lots of laughs.

As a way to say goodbye to my in-laws, I dedicate this song and may they have a safe trip.

Cavite, the True Anting-anting Capital of the Philippines

Remember "Nardong Putik", "Kapitan Inggo" and the other roles Ramon Revilla portrayed wherein he is invinsible because of "anting-anting. Well, I know someone who really possesses one. They say, most of the locals in Amadeo, Cavite have anting-anting. Wether it is used for protection or criminal activities. No wonder many of the folks I have seen there live very long. My fiance's lola and her sister are already 85 and 88 years old respectively and I don't see any signs of total weakness. One instance is when I saw the older lola get one piece of ripe santol, and opened it with her bare hands by piercing her finger into the skin and opening it. Amazing huh? Considering her old and crooked hands due to old age. Even I coudn't do it that way. I have to squeeze the fruit and force it to open. My father-in-law-to-be even told me they have it. They're just waiting to pass it to the "Chosen One" before they leave this world.

Are these powers given from the One above or black magic?

Pansol, Laguna is the place to be...

Last friday, I was with my lovely fiancee and her side of the family for a weekend getaway. Her auntie from the States just got home and wanted to spend her weekend with her "anaks, manugangs and pamangkins" on a swimming field trip. We started travelling at around 4 PM after work, but unfortunately, my fiancee had to return a company equipment in the makati office which took us forever to go becuase of the short rain wherein traffic jams in every intersection in Manila happened.

At last, we started traversing the road of the SLEX (South Luzon Expressway), which by the way is definitely no match to the travel convenience of NLEX (North Luzon Expressway), and soon found ourselves in a turtle race with the others. Meanwhile, the second batch texted us that they're already at the rendevous point in Petron gasoline station. After 2 hours of pain staking driving in a "moon-like road, we finally arrived at Petron. I quickly grabbed a snack and drove off to the final place.

After a short drive, we arrived at Pansol, Laguna, the "private pool capital of the Philippines". Upon entering a subdivision-like area, two guys approached us and were asking if we wanted a private pool reservation. I quickly said yes and up they go on their motorcyle while we follow them. With 5 different resorts where they took us, we finally decided to settle for the 3,500 pesos (80$) which included 4 airconditioned bedrooms, 1 kiddie pool and 1 adult pool, cooking equipments, a refrigirator and a pool table. Not bad for 30 people. We shot pool till 3 in the morning and went swimming they day after. It was relaxing to unwind outside the busy streets and noise of Manila. I can't wait to come back...
